Some things we did in 2011

Saturday 9^th July - Amano School Fair

It was a cold sunny morning when we went to Amano Christian School fair in the bus.

We were given some pocket money and were able to enjoy lots of stalls. Some of these were: fishing for prizes in a paddling pool, throwing balls to knock down toilet tissue towers, ‘lucky dip’, making a tower with cups, shooting at bottles, skipping, guess the number of biscuits in a jar, guess the name of a teddy bear, pick-a-stick, throwing wet sponge at the head master, moving beans by sucking them on to a straw, ludo, copy a drawing in a mirror. Judie went for a ride on a horse and we played on the swings and round-a-bout.

We ate lolly pops, pop corn, sweets and had hot dogs for lunch. We enjoyed it very much and were sad when we had to get back on the bus!

Thursday 30^th June  – Sports Day

We were invited to a sports day at Nchanga Cricket Club. We met children from other orphanages and played games and raced against them.  We did running races, bean bag on the head and skipping.  We made new friends and enjoyed being with other children. The Indian ladies gave us nice food and some gifts. T-shirts we also given to us for the occasion and we were thankful that they welcomed us and that we were able to have fun with the other children.

Thursday 16^th June – Day of the African Child

We went to the celebrations for the African Child Day. We went on the bus, Uncle Phil was driving. We carried a banner and marched with children from other groups from the Boma to town centre then down to the cricket ground. This is where we made friends with the other children. The groups were dancing, drumming, acting, singing some songs and we said some memory verses in front of the guest of honour – the District Commissioner. It was a good day and we enjoyed ourselves.

Friday 3rd June  – The Copperbelt Mining, Agricultural & Commercial Show

We went to the show grounds in Kitwe in the new bus. We had been given some money so we bought things like sunglasses, toys and hair clips. The President came past and we greeted him. There were a lot of animals like snakes, horses, rabbits, goldfish and crocodiles. Some people were dancing, playing drums and there was a marching band. We saw machines and cars for sale. We enjoyed that day and wish we can go again to have some fun.
